Why Every Internet Marketer Should Learn Copywriting
Posted by Steven Wagenheim on August 08, 2010 in General, Marketing ArticlesOkay, I’m going to really go out on a limb and make a statement that I normally wouldn’t make only because I personally hate absolutes. But in this case, I’m going to make an exception. Here goes…
Every Internet marketer, from the article marketer right on down to the PPC person, should learn the art of copywriting.
What’s that you say? You’re never going to write a sales letter either because you’re an affiliate marketer or because you have no desire to create your own products ever?
Well, I have a big news flash for you my friend. Copywriting is NOT just for writing sales letters. At least the art of it is for more than just that.
See, the basic foundation of all marketing, regardless of what you’re selling or how you’re selling it, is communication. If you can’t effectively communicate with your target market, even if it’s something like Adsense or CPA, you’re not going to get the results that you’re looking for.
Communication skills are sorely lacking in this industry. Think I’m kidding? When I get emails that go something like this…
“Hi…how much for your coaching?”
I really have to wonder if this person even got passed the 8th grade. If you want somebody to take you seriously, a little thought into what you write would certainly go a long way.
And believe it or not, if I were going to write to somebody asking about their coaching, the basics of copywriting would come in very handy for catching their attention.
For example, I might start my email with this…
“You’re About To Meet Your Best Coaching Student Ever!”
Think this isn’t going to get the person’s attention on the other end? For one thing, it shows confidence. It also shows a lot of originality when it comes to composing an email.
And I would continue the email using other copywriting basics, such as bullet points to illustrate why I would be the perfect student. By the time that person was done reading this letter, they’d have no doubt that they’d want me as a student.
But let’s get back to marketing. Even as an affiliate marketer, you’re going to want to be able to write a compelling ad to get your prospects to purchase the product you’re promoting. There is no better way to do this than using the same copywriting basics that make up all good sales letters.
And if all that isn’t enough for you, try this on for size. Learning copywriting will simply make you a better all around marketer, especially when deciding on what products to promote as an affiliate. You’ll be able to spot a weak sales page a mile away.
So before you dismiss the notion of getting yourself a good copywriting book and studying it, because you have no desire to learn how to write a sales letter, think about how much better you’ll be as a marketer with this skill under your belt.
To YOUR Success,
Steven Wagenheim
