Why Am I Working On Labor Day?
Posted by Steven Wagenheim on September 09, 2010 in GeneralAs I am writing this, it’s Labor Day, which is one of those silly holidays that we have in the US. Anything to have an excuse to take a day off and sit around eating hot dogs and burgers and getting fat. So you’re probably asking yourself, why am I working today, considering that I don’t really work very many days during the month as it is? Well, there are several answers to that question. You might want to take one or more of them as a good reason why maybe YOU should get some work done today as well. That is of course unless you just want to sit around, eat and get fat.
You may have not noticed this, but there is a good chance that you’re going to get fewer emails in your in box today than on a normal day. Why is this? Because most marketers are out there eating and getting fat and NOT working on their marketing.
Their reasoning?
There’s nobody to market to today. Everybody else it out there eating and getting fat.
And in truth, they are partially right. There are a lot of potential prospects for our products and/or services who are indeed not at their computers today.
But there are quite a few who are. And THOSE people are just ripe for the picking. We’re going to capture their attention where everybody else, who makes a living on the Internet, is…well, you know.
Historically, I have had some of my best sale days on the holidays simply because I did some work and everybody else was out partying.
Another reason I’m working today is a psychological one. By rights, I could take the day off without guilt. After all, it is Labor Day and nobody outside of a dictator would expect me to work today. But, by putting in a day of work on this holiday, it gives me a feeling that I am getting an edge over everybody who is not.
One extra day to push my site above my competitor in the SERPs.
One extra day to get an article out there that would have had to wait until tomorrow.
I could keep going but I think you get the idea. Working on days when you don’t have to gives you a feeling of accomplishment that you don’t get on normal days.
Why?
Because on normal days you HAVE to do the work. It’s more of a grind than anything else. But today, you’re doing it because you WANT to.
Trust me…there is a big difference.
Finally, and this is going to sound rather odd, what else am I going to do?
There is only so much TV I can watch.
There are only so many video games I can play.
There is only so much I can eat. And yes, I know in some of your cases, you can eat all day long. I’ve seen your photos.
So for me, this is the logical thing to do. And who knows what might come of it. I might get a new mentoring student today who appreciates my work ethic…the one that has lead to my success.
It sure beats sitting around, eating and…well, you know.
To YOUR Success,
Steven Wagenheim
