Top 25 Success Secrets – Observing Trends
Posted by Steven Wagenheim on October 10, 2010 in GeneralIn the last installment of Top 25 Success Secrets, I went over record keeping, which is really important if you want to keep yourself out of bankruptcy and maybe even jail. In this installment of our series, I’m up to number 20…Observing Trends. I find this to be a very important aspect to running a successful business.
But why?
Well, to answer that question, we have to look at several aspects of trends as they are not all the same.
Probably the first one that comes to mind would be observing what new products and services are coming out. Remember when the IPod first hit? Do you have any idea how many Ebayers started stocking up on these things wholesale and sold them by the ton?
Staying on top of new technology is probably one of the easiest ways to cash in big time IF you have the funds to really do it right…such as what these wholesale buyers do. Ebay supersellers get to BE supersellers because of tactics like these.
But it’s not just products and services you have to be on the lookout for. There are also marketing trends that you need to keep up with.
For example, do you remember when MySpace first hit the scene? What about Facebook? What about Twitter? All of these, and so many other platforms, have been used to soak every possible nickel out of a buying market. Some trends come and go but some stick around for a long time. Personally, I don’t find Twitter as effective as it once was, but that might just be me.
Then you have trends such as changes in sales page tactics. Remember when the “Add To Cart” button first became big? Everybody and their grandmother had to run to try it out to see if it really converted that well. Personally, I never bothered with it. I’ve found that my text links saying “Click Here To Instantly Download” worked very well. Wonder why that could be?
I’ll let you figure it out.
What about trends in how we take payments? There’s always a new payment processor or payment play coming around. Lately, I’m seeing a lot of installment plans for big ticket items. I’m also seeing people use multiple payment processors in order to capture sales that they might not get if they just used Clickbank or PayPal.
Some trends are indeed fads. They come and go so fast that if you blinked, you missed them. Remember the pixel ads? Whatever happened to them? Some don’t disappear but become totally ineffective. Think FFA sites for a poster of ads. When will they get it?
Now, keeping up with the latest and greatest isn’t an absolute necessity for being successful, which is why it’s only number 20 on my list. However, if you don’t keep up with what’s going on, you may miss out on things that not only would have put more money in your pocket but kept you from making some serious mistakes in the process.
Be aware of trends. You’ll never know when you just might hit one that will make all the difference in the world.
To YOUR Success,
Steven Wagenheim
