Top 25 Success Secrets – Dedication

Posted by Steven Wagenheim on October 10, 2010 in General

In the last installment of Top 25 Success Secrets, I went over establishing credibility and how important it is. If you didn’t read the article, maybe you should go back and do it after you’ve finished reading this one. Today’s success secret, number 15 and counting backwards, is dedication. A lot of people don’t have a true understanding of what dedication is. Well, hopefully, after reading this article, you’ll have a very good idea of just what dedication is and how to become a dedicated person to your business.

Okay, so what is dedication? Well, there are a lot of definitions, but the one I like the best is number 4 from the Free Web Dictionary.

4. Selfless devotion: served the public with dedication and integrity.

In the case of running your business, that public would be your prospects or potential customers. Yes, that’s who you’re serving, whether you know it or not.

See, many people think that dedication is just getting up and doing their job each day. But that’s only part of it. You can do that and still not really care about the people you’re serving. That, to me, is half hearted dedication.

To be truly dedicated to your business, you have to think of what’s best for your customer without FIRST thinking of your own selfish needs. By providing true value to the person who you are hoping will purchase your product, you will end up making more sales in the process. Your dedication will shine through.

Great, so how do we do this? Well, for starters, we do have to be honest with ourselves. We have to look at what we have to offer and honestly answer this question.

“If I was the prospect, is what I am offering, free or paid, of the kind of quality that I would expect?”

If the answer is no, then you have to sit down and figure out what it is about the product that needs to be changed to TRULY make it something of value.

See, when somebody gets something from you and it’s obvious that you’ve put your heart and soul into it, they’re going to tell other people. It’s rare these days that somebody buys a product or gets a free report and it really goes above and beyond what they expected.

And yes, maybe that means you’ve put more work into it than you would have liked. And yes, maybe that means that you either sold it for less than you would have liked or even gave it away when you would have preferred to sell it.

Again, look at the definition of dedication.

4. Selfless devotion: served the public with dedication and integrity.

This isn’t something that’s easy for a lot of us. We’re usually taught that we want to get the most out of what we’re doing, to think of ourselves first. Well, ironically, by thinking of your prospects first, you are ultimately thinking of yourself first because they’re going to respect you more and buy more of your products.

Dedication is one of the hardest qualities to have as a home business owner.

And one of the most important.
