Making Money Online – Getting Yourself In The Groove

Today I wanted to tackle an issue that all people (not just internet marketers) face. There are multiple faces to this problem and you can callit what you will (and it will vary depending on the angle you look from).

But the fact of that matter is this that until you can overcome this problem you will NOT be successful in internet marketing (or anything) for that matter.

Now as I said, practically everyone is affected by this problem in one way or another. So what’s this mysterious problem that I’m talking about? None other than procrastination. Hah, like you didn’t see that coming right?

Well it doesn’t matter if you did or didn’t what does matter is that you realize what procrastination is keeping you from doing, achieving and conquering.

The answer? What you truly desire, keep reading and I’ll explain exactly what I mean.

Think about it like this procrastination, is a fairly new invention. People didn’t always have time to procrastinate, there was a time when all your ‘free’ time went not to thinking, watching TV, hobbies or sports but it all went to something much more straight forward – survival.

But it was once agriculture kicked in that all of a sudden survival WASN’T always at the forefront.

And at that point the first procrastinator came to be and all the ones after them. Now as the ages went on an alarming trend started to form.

The people who took action and took the time to study, learn and progress quickly ended up on top of the social pyramid while those who lazed around, procrastinated and did squat quickly sank to the bottom.

But how does that explain what procrastination is keeping you from?

Well let me ask you something, when have you felt good about procrastinating? Never right?

And it makes sense, because the act of procrastination I would say has a fairly negative connontation of not doing your work and pushing it back until later.

There are no qualms in my mind that we’ve all done this at one point or another and that’s fine, but what isn’t is continuing to do it after today.

Why today? Because today is the day that you either get on the bandwagon or stay off, because there is no place for procrastinators at the top of the pyramid.

Procrastination and internet marketing – a deadly mix

Now I’d like to relate procrastination and internet marketing, something that I think most of the readers of this blog (if our analytics are correct) are interested in.

Now internet marketing is without a doubt the EASIEST way to make money. I mean you won’t find another business opportunity where your set up costs will be so low while the profit margin stays up so high (costs nothing to make PDFs, screencasts etc).

And there’s no shortage of information online to get started, sure some of it is filler but there’s TONS of great information out there just waiting to be used and implemented.

Yet even with such a promising medium 95% of internet marketers WILL NOT succeed in making money online, and why is that?

Well a large chunk of those marketers are simply readers. This means they are essentially no different from the spiders which crawl your pages, they come to your site, read your information but never take the time to implement it.

Then there’s those who will read it and TRY to implement it, however this group of marketers are solely interested in seeing the money first and results second. Which is why if they don’t instantly see some sort of cashflow being generated they quickly drop the method and move on to the next.

Most internet marketers who don’t succed will fall into the first category of ‘information overload’, they keep reading and reading telling themselves that they will stop once they ‘know enough’ but the truth is that it’s not about how much you know, it’s about how you use what you do know.

For instance, just because I read about baking a cake doesn’t mean I can actually bake a delicious cake, it simply means I have an understanding of what is required to bake a cake.

Likewise with internet marketing, just because you read some ebook on generating traffic doesn’t mean you know how to generate traffic. Until you actually send some traffic to a page you really know absolutely nothing. Zilch.

Personally the only things I know to be true are the ones I’ve done myself. Because you never know if you can recreate results and more importantly you never know how something will work for you until you have tried it out, and even then it usually takes some more time, thinking and tweaking to get it working perfectly (there really is no easy fix when it comes to internet marketing).

At the end of the day here’s what it really comes down to.

You can spend your entire life going to school, getting a job, working for a company, retiring and then FINALLY after 65 years you get to sit back and relax (if you’re lucky enough to have a pension).

Or you can create an entire fortune using the internet, and all that is required is time, effort and patience (because results are NOT instant).

We both know which lifestyle you’d rather have so the question is why don’t you? It’s because you’re not putting in the work you should be. Internet marketing IS a full time job, it’s the easiest full time job I’ve ever had and I wouldn’t trade it for the world.

But does it take a special kind of person to do this job? Yes, absolutely.

It takes someone who’s on task, motivated and DOESN’T push their work off to the last minute but instead dives straight into it until it’s done (which when it comes to internet marketing is never).

I’m not really sure if this will help anyone battle their procrastination but look forward to some more posts dealing with methods and ways of controlling and beating your procrastination.

The first step to overcoming your laziness though is accepting the fact that it is there. IT’s also there to say and it’s not leaving without a fight, so prepare yourself mentally because until you overcome your procrastination you will NOT be successful in internet marketing (or pretty much anything else for that matter.)
