The First Steps to Article Marketing

The third chapter from 7 steps to Article Marketing series takes a look at Keyword Research, I shall be introducing Keyword Research and explaining what Keyword Research is, why it is important when you are Article Marketing and how you can optimise your articles with your keyword research results, using ezine articles as the example.

An Introduction to Keyword Research

I personally believe that Keyword Research is at the forefront of any website development whether it be a blog that your developing or Internet Marketing your performing, Keyword Research should be the first thing you act upon after you have found the market you want to take a bite at.

By performing a good analysis of Keyword Research it can benefit your blog or marketing campaign extremely, not only in the short term but in the long term as well. Keyword Research may take you a while to perform if you want to ensure you choose the correct keywords however it can also save you time in the long term.

What is Keyword Research?

Keyword Research is the process of analysing statistical data using several different methods the main ones people use are Google Keyword research tool, Google search results, Wordtracker and other Keyword Research tools, you may also want to look at competitors keywords.

The basic steps are to start by researching and analysing your main keyword for the market you are entering, this may be “Fishing” then you will analyse and compare search results and traffic of many related keywords. The aim is to find keywords that have little to no competition but high volumes of traffic, obviously it would be difficult to find keywords with little competition so you may settle for finding keywords which you can guarantee that your website will rank for.

For Article Marketing it is the same concept however you are trying to find keywords with high amounts of volume that you believe the Article Directory can rank highly for by using your article. The methods are similiar however you may also use the Article Directory site to analyse certain keywords, by analysing other peoples articles and the traffic they receive. I have briefly talked about this in the last chapter of the series Ezine articles explained, where to submit your articles.

You can learn much more about Keyword Research by reading my All in one Keyword research eBook which you can download by subscribing to my blog.

Why is Keyword Research important for Article Marketing?

You may be wondering why Keyword Research is important for Article Marketing because you thought that the Article Directories would take care of bringing in the traffic and you would only have to convert the traffic you receive. Well, in a sense that is correct. Yes the Article Directories do take care of the traffic for you to a certain extent, as they bring the traffic to the website however with the most professional and effective Article Directories such as ezine articles you are among thousands and thousands of other Authors who are also competing to rake in the most traffic.

So you may be thinking well if thats the case, then what can I do to beat them. This is where Keyword Research comes in to play. By researching your market using both the Keyword research tools and the article directory you can target specific keywords which are highly related to your market and which are highly searched both on the Article Directory and in the search engines.

Many people don’t bother with much Keyword Research instead they just write the article and stick it on the directory to gain backlinks and for it to then bring in a trickle of traffic, however because you want to maximise traffic and gain the backlinks you need to perform your keyword research.

How to optimise your Articles using your Keywords?

After you have conducted your Keyword Research it is time to optimise your Articles by including your keywords in your articles;

  1. Title
  2. Keywords Meta Tag
  3. Description
  4. Article Body (Bold some keywords)
  5. Resource Box

These are the main on page optimisation techniques you can use for making your article stand out amongst the crowd.

If you want to maximise traffic even further than you can start to build links to your Article, where as I have never done this before because I personally feel that I would rather build links to my own website instead of an article on another site. I have heard that it can have great effects on your article and increase the amount of traffic you have enormously.
