How to set up an affiliate website
Firstly you need to find your niche, perhaps something you’re interested in or something you know you can sell. Find something that no one else is selling however something that you know will sell; use statistics that you may be able to find on the internet to see what sells well. You want something that you can either sell millions of, or something that you may only be able to sell one or two a month, but which will give you a nice large payment. Choose something that you will find easy to write about, because in the end your going to be enticing people to buy the product, they need to think your passionate about it, and that you love this product, that you will do anything to sell the product.
By searching through affiliate programs like click bank, link share or Commission Junction these networks will handle the tracking and money, and in return for you advertising one of their listed products on your website, you will get a nice percentage of the overall selling price. After signing up to one or more of these websites, you then need to search through the thousands upon thousands of products out there ready and waiting for you to advertise them, look around in the specific area that you want to sell in and find products that sound interesting to you don’t just randomly pick products that have a high payment, as these may be the ones that you wont be able to sell.
After you have found your niche, and the products you want to sell you now need to hunt down your competition. I would suggest using the keywords from your website and products that you’re selling, to search for websites relevant to them keywords by searching on Google and Yahoo. By searching for these sites and examining how they may display there products they are selling you now need to figure out a way of making your site stand out, perhaps try a different angle or approach to selling your products.
By the time you have done all this, you now must have an idea of what you’re selling, the niche that you are targeting and your main competition. Who your target market it and how you can advertise your product towards your target market, how you can make your site stand out and what USP (Unique selling Point) your website may have.
Now its time to start developing your website, you don’t just want a website that has solely been developed to sell your products. As this will not get you many views, the views that you will receive in you’re website will also probably get bored and annoyed as it will be obvious you’re just trying to make money from them. The website needs to be interesting and full of content if you want to actually make a successful website. Perhaps write articles on your product or on the hobby that your product circles, for example if your product is roller skates, then writing articles on the best roller skates to buy (linking to your webpage with these roller skates on) would be a great idea. Don’t just make one of these articles you want a couple, if you have one product in suggest a 5-10 page website with at least 5 articles specific to your product, which all have links to your webpage with the product for sale. You want to add affiliate links in every article, if it seems you can not add an affiliate link to an article, the article is not relevant and you need to stop spending your time writing it.
Another added monetizing method to put on your website is Google Ad sense, I have an article on what Google Ad sense is and how to implement it here How to use Google Adsense so I wont cover this area, other than saying that this is another way you can make money adding advertising boxes on your website, on the relevant area that your website is in, so in my example of roller skates, the adverts may be roller skating gear.
