If you want to increase your traffic, improve your websites visibility, sell a brand or a product then social media marketing may be for you. If you haven’t already tried it social media marketing (SMM) is one of the most effective types of marketing. If you can cope with increased bounce rates and masses of untargeted traffic then perhaps you should look in to social media marketing.

Now you may ask why the hell you would want increased bounce rates or masses of untargeted traffic. There is a logical answer, you don’t. However the positives far outweigh the negatives and social media marketing will help brand your website and increase visibility throughout the web. As well as untargeted traffic and increased bounce rates you will receive targeted traffic some of whom will subscribe to your RSS feed or purchase a product.

The overall effect that social media marketing can have on your website is dependent on how much time you devote to pushing your website out in to the social media world. Not only this affects the overall performance of social media marketing but also the social media sites you target, different sites work better with different markets.

So what is social media marketing?

Sorry I totally forgot to explain what social media marketing is well here goes; social media marketing abbreviated to be SMM is a form of internet marketing (IM) where a website is made visible through social media websites. Social media marketing can bring in masses of traffic as well as increasing the amount of incoming links you have. It is a very exciting form of marketing in my own opinion which can bring you unimaginable traffic if performed correctly.

If you want to understand the types of traffic you will receive from social media marketing you can read Social media marketing Targeted Vs Untargeted this article helps to explain the benefits of having both targeted and untargeted traffic in the world of social media marketing.

What benefits will you get from social media marketing?

1. Large increases of traffic both targeted and untargeted.
2. Increased number of subscribers to your website
3. Web visibility and the viral effect of SMM
4. Increased earnings
5. Increased amount of backlinks (in turn improving SERPs)

The best thing is social media marketing is free, ok it costs time to get the ball rolling but I would say after a month or so of concentrating on using SMM to promote your website, it will take care of its self afterwards. Sure to keep increasing traffic through social media marketing then you may want to apply some time to SMM every day (I do, and so do many others) there is nothing to stop you doing this.

Here are some quick tips to get you going

If you are serious about social media marketing then you will want to devote at least an hour a day to 2 at maximum social media websites. It’s not just a case of slapping up a stumble upon icon on your website and stumbling all of your own articles. This is a quick way to becoming blacklisted but nothing else. You need to build up a community, a network of people with the same interests as you which are relevant to your website.

1. Identify one or two social media sites to promote your website through.
2. Create a personal profile and make it look good. Spend some time writing about your interests, hobbies, upload an avatar. Keep the same username and avatar for each social media website this way you create a well known identity. Make sure you have your website link in your profile for others to view.
3. Communicate with others, search for people with the same interests as yourself.
4. Create a network of people, join groups, discuss things
5. Be active!

Whilst all this is going on add a couple of your articles each week 2-3 amongst the other 10 or more articles from other people’s websites that you enjoyed.

Social media marketing can be as time consuming as you want it to be you can spend 5 minutes or 5 hours a day working on your network, promoting your website.
