Google are definitely on their way to global dominance especially over the internet industry with the release of their first ever web browser Google Chrome things are set to become a little more competitive over the market authority of the web browser.
It currently stands at Microsoft owning the largest market share with a whopping 73% according to Wikipedia’s second quarter statistics of 2008. With a large gap in between Microsoft and Mozilla Firefox the open source web browser with 18.43%. Microsoft have quite comfortably sat back and relaxed whilst other browsers tried to compete with them. Trawling quite far behind Internet explorer and Firefox we have Safari with 6.14% of the market share.
As you can see Microsoft’s Internet explorer dominates the market share whilst leaving no room for another competitor. However the time has come for Google to move in to web browsers with their dominance in many other areas of the Internet I would say it’s about time. Google have a large amount of resources to help promote and advertise their new web browser with full control over the Google search engine as well as many other Google assets it should make Microsoft sweat a little.
If you have not already downloaded and tried out Google Chrome I suggest you take a look. You can download it here.
Currently I am a big fan of Mozilla Firefox 3 however the main feature that attracts me to Google Chrome is the bookmarked pages with Icons on the home page. This I believe is a great feature which perhaps Mozilla should also try to adapt.
