In our last installment of email marketing tips, we began a discussion of subject lines and their importance in getting prospects to open your emails. We focused primarily on the benefit type subject line. In this installment, we’re going to cover more subject line strategies that I am sure you will find quite effective if used properly.

Another subject line that is quite effective is the scarcity line. Now let me start off by saying that I in NO WAY condone false scarcity. If you’re going to say you’re only selling X number of units of your product, you damn well better mean it. Otherwise, you lose all respect from me.

An example of this type of subject line would be something like this.

“WordPress Confidential With PLR On Sale Now – ONLY 50 Going”

This is actually an email subject that I used for one of my products that I was offering PLR rights to. It was very effective as it netted me about $1,500 in just one day. And that’s without it even selling out.

The reason scarcity works is because people are afraid of losing out on an offer. They don’t want to wake up the next morning saying to themselves, “Damn…I should have gotten that when I had the chance. Now it’s all gone.”

As I said, true scarcity can be very effective. However, lie to people about something like this and eventually it WILL come back to haunt you.

Another very effective subject line is what I call the “Curiosity” subject line.

For example, something like this can work great…

“John Doe Called Me A Crook!” where John Doe is actually some big name guru. Naturally, when your subscribers see something like that, they’re going to want to know WHY John Doe called you a crook. This will get them to open up the email.

Curiosity is one of the most powerful things in this world. How many people could walk by a table with a box sitting on the table and NOT want to look and see what’s in the box?

Why do you think, every time there is an accident on the other side of the road, everybody on YOUR side just has to stop and look? It’s curiosity. They need to see if there are any heads rolling down the highway.

They say that curiosity killed the cat. One thing it never killed is an email marketing campaign. If you can get people curious as to what’s in your email, that’s half the battle won.

Another effective email subject tactic is the question.

For example:

“What Do You Think Of The New Ezine Article Platinum Author’s Program?”

If you have a list targeting article writers and marketers, they’re going to want to open this for two reasons.

1. They’re probably thinking that you want THEIR opinion and this is their chance to actually write back to YOU.

2. They’re going to want to see what YOUR opinion is on it, not really knowing if you’re even going to give one or not.

People can’t help but want to answer questions. That’s why poll threads at forums are so popular. People LOVE giving their opinion because now THEY are the focus.

These are just a few of the many email marketing subject line tactics that you can use.

We’ll have more in our next installment.

In the first installment of our series on email marketing, we questioned if email marketing was dead and pinpointed some of the mistakes that email marketers make. In this installment, we’re going to start picking apart the email marketing process starting with the content itself. More specifically, we’re going to focus on the subject of our emails.

Our email subject is the very first thing that your prospect sees. So a bad subject can detonate your whole email marketing campaign right off the bad. Problem is, many email marketers don’t know what a bad subject is. Many times, it’s not what they think.

Let me explain.

One of the biggest mistakes email marketers make, when deciding on a subject, is looking at the subjects that other marketers are using in THEIR emails and assuming that if THEY’RE using these subjects, they must be working.

But think about it. Do you have any idea what the open rates are of these emails? Unless you can personally check the stats of these people (don’t believe half of what they claim) you really have no way of knowing is a subject that somebody else uses is any good or not.

What will usually happen in this industry is that guru A will use a subject line and then everybody who receives this email in their in box will jump on the bandwagon and use the subject line too…not really knowing how effective it is.

An even bigger problem is that most people don’t know WHY the guru in question used that particular subject line. It might have been something tailored to his specific list that might not work for you. Or, it could have simply been an experiment…and a failed one at that.

You’ll never know.

Plus, you’re basing your use of the subject line on your own bias. If you don’t personally like the subject line, you won’t use it. If you do like it, you will use it. What you fail to understand is that regardless of whether you like the subject or not, you still have no idea how effective it will be.

Truth is, there is no ONE subject line that will work for everybody. Every list is different. Every niche is different. And while I don’t like absolutes, there are a few things that I firmly believe every subject line should have…not all in one of course. Naturally, the more things you can include, the better.

At the top of the list is “What’s in it for the person opening the email?”

A subject line that promises some kind of benefit if the email is opened is likely to get opened more often than not. After all, the people on your list want to know what’s in it for them.

So, if you have a list on traffic generation and you send an email with this subject line…

“3 Free Killer Traffic Generation Tips Inside”

Don’t you think there is a good chance that the person on your list will open the email, especially if they’re on your list because they want to learn about traffic generation?

This is one type of subject that works well, “The Benefit”. There are others.

We’ll get into those in our next installment.

Is Internet marketing as dead as a doornail? According to some people, you would think that it is. Every single day I hear the horror stories…

My delivery rates are down the tubes.

My open rates are abysmal.

My CTR is almost non existent.

And on top of all that, you keep hearing about how Internet marketers are having their autoresponder accounts closed because of spam complaints.

Yeah, it’s a real mess out there.

In spite of all this, and contrary to what a lot of people believe, email marketing is NOT dead. In fact, it’s not even close to being dead.

Personally, I make the bulk of my sales emailing my personal list. So obviously, either email marketing is alive and well or I walk on water.

I’ll go with the former.

However, having said all that, if you don’t properly run your email campaigns, you’re not going to get results. And to that end, there is a lot involved…a lot.

Let’s start with the actual autoresponder service that you’re using. I realize that money is tight and you’re trying to get the biggest bang for the buck, but going with a no name autoresponder service is throwing your money away…no matter how cheap it is.

The reason should be obvious, but maybe it’s not. Many cheap AR services simply have poor delivery rates, most likely because they’re on every blacklist in existence. I had this problem back in my early days of email marketing when I went with a no name company. My delivery rates were awful. Then I went with Aweber and my results changed dramatically…almost overnight.

But a reputable AR service is just the start of the solution. And before you even send ONE email to your list, another HUGE problem is targeting.

If the list you’re putting together is NOT properly targeted, you’re simply not going to get any response from it.

For example, let’s say you have a product that’s in a sub niche of the health niche. Let’s say it’s an acne product. Building a list of people who are into general health issues may bring you SOME people into acne, but wouldn’t it be better if you simply targeted your list building efforts to people JUST interested in curing their acne?

Sure, your list may not be as big (in this business size only matters if it’s relevant) but the people you DO have on your list will be a lot more responsive than a list built targeting a general population.

Believe me, I’ve done both and the one just doesn’t bring substantial results because the interests are too broad.

Okay, so after you’ve made sure that your list is as targeted as possible, NOW we come to the actual sending of the emails.

This is where most email marketers drop the ball.

In fact, there are so many things that can go wrong with an email. it’s a wonder that anybody gets this part right without a lot of trial and error.

And make no mistake about it…email marketing DOES require a lot of testing to determine what works best for the niche YOU’RE targeting.

So, in my next article, what I’m going to do is start dissecting emails to see where we can identify possible flaws and pitfalls.

See you soon with more.

What is PLR?

PLR is an abbreviation for Private Label Rights and this is content which when written, the writer has given the rights to allow customers/clients the rights to edit/change the content & in most cases re-distribute the content. However it is important to mention with each PLR material you purchase the rights to the content may differ slightly.

For example a collection of PLR material may allow you to re-distribute/re-sell the content to potential prospects however it may not allow you to edit the content & change titles and/or images.

When purchasing PLR whether from a sole website or through a forum, there should always be specific details regarding the private label rights of the content you are purchasing. If not I do suggest contacting the seller to ensure that you understand what rights the seller is attaching to their PLR material.

Difference between PLR & MRR

There is always a lot of confusion between PLR & MRR at least once a week I see someone on Warrior forum asking what the difference is between PLR & MRR. Therefore, once and for all I am going to answer it now.

PLR as explained above is Private label rights material that the creator has given you the rights to edit/change content/re-sell/giveaway and much more but as I highlighted above always read the specific rights of the content your purchasing as it always varies.

MRR is the abbreviation for Master resale rights and generally speaking with MRR material you cannot claim the material to be your own creation nor can you edit/change the MRR material. However like PLR products you can sell the material to the end user, but this is where it differs. With MRR material you can sell the material to the customer with PLR rights to edit/change or re-distribute the content to another customer this being the end user. Also you may find that with some MRR material there is a restriction on the price you can resell the material for, usually a minimum to ensure a certain level of demand/supply is assured.

There are various other restrictions on PLR and MRR but as I pointed out earlier, the restrictions that maybe attached to the PLR and MRR material will differ from each seller.

Typical PLR Restrictions

[YES] Can be given away.
[YES] Can be packaged.
[YES] Can be offered as a bonus.
[YES] Can be added to paid membership sites
[YES] Can be added to free membership sites
[YES] Can be offered through auction sites
[YES] Can sell Resale Rights
[YES] Can sell Master Resale Rights
[NO] Can Be Edited Completely and Your Name Put on it.
[NO] Can be used as web, blog, newsletter content
[NO] Can be broken down into smaller articles
[NO] Can be used for eCourse or autoresponder series
[NO] Can sell Private Label Rights

These are typically the type of restrictions you will find with PLR material. Overall as mentioned earlier, just check before you purchase PLR or MRR, ask the seller or look for a specific restrictions page within the PLR/MRR website.

14 advantages of using Email marketing software

If your looking to grow your online business then you should definitely consider using email marketing. You may have seen the buzz around email marketing before, on forums, blogs and so on everyone talking about email marketing and how effective it is. Well it is true, this is no hyped up bs, email marketing can be effective and can increase your income ten fold.

The money is in the list – very true.

Email marketing can be a very effective way of developing a relationship with your customers and an excellent way of getting repeat custom. But why isn’t everyone using email marketing? Well many people believe that email marketing is very time consuming therefore they are put of by this marketing technique before they even start.

I use email marketing myself and I would say I am a pretty busy person, however I still find time to focus on my email marketing campaigns. How? Because I use an excellent email marketing auto responder called Aweber. Probably the most popular email marketing software available and the best selling. Below is a list of excellent features that Aweber integrates in to its system.

You are able to choose from a variety of different opt in templates like those you find on my website (right sidebar, below my article).

Emails are automatically stored and can be edited/sent later on.

New subscribers receive a welcome message that you can edit.

You are able to create as many follow up emails as you would like and send them between intervals of your choice.

You are able to make subscribers double opt in helping keep your list targeted and spam free.

You are able to choose from a variety of email templates from the most colorful professional themes to simple, sleek and elegant themes.

Aweber keeps your emails safe from spam complaints, blacklists and filters so the emails don’t get trashed.

You can schedule as many emails as you would like.

You cancreate as many mailing lists as you would like, as many campaigns as you would like.

Aweber can be easily intergrated with RSS feeds so you can combine your subscriber lists and send/control the subscribers through Aweber.

You are able manage all of this from an online control panel, very simple to use.

Aweber provide several step by step video guides and tutorials for anyone who needs help.

You are able to add images/video and other content to your emails.

Aweber has a variety of analytics tools/reports/graphs which track all of your history and current live campaigns.

Overall Aweber is most definitely the best email auto responder software currently available and at a good price you cannot go wrong. I have been using Aweber for over 2 years now and have not once regretted it.

7 Steps to Improve Your E-mail Marketing

Email marketing is becoming very popular within the world of Internet marketing since it has been proven that conversions are generally higher after you establish a relationship with those potential customers. However it is critical that you optimise your email marketing campaign to take full advantage of this very effective marketing process. When developing your next email marketing campaign consider these guidelines below.

Your Email List

It is important that you create a list from scratch or at least to purchase an email list from a trusted source and one which has proven to have collected the email list using legitmate and ethical strategies which include a double opt in option for those subscribers. Are the subscribers recent subscribers and are they targeted to the market you are selling to.

2. Your Subject Line

A very tricky and skilled task is getting your subscribers to open your email message which depends entirely on a one line of text within their email inbox. You have one chance to catch the subscribers interest and entice them to click open the email. It is paramount that you get your subscribers to open your email messages. You can test which email subject line works best by split testing with your email lists by segregating your email lists in to two or three different sections. With each section you can send the same email message but with different subject lines and analyse the response rate and click rate with each group.

3. Your Sender Information

When creating your email messages it is important that you add simple yet informative sender information so that your email subscribers know who the email is from. Try using an email address which includes the domain name to which they would have subscribed to your newsletter through, you can also add your name if they are familiar with this.

4. Track your Results

To ensure you can improve your conversion rates you need to track your results. This includes things like how many people have opened the email, how many people clicked the links within the email and so on. Depending on what autoresponder you are using this can be an easy or difficult task. Using software such as Aweber this can be done very easily, as they provide statistics on pretty much everything.

5. Give Subscribers a Choice to Unsubscribe

Whenever you are building an email list it is always important to make sure that you give subscribers a choice to unsubscribe each and every time that you email them. The Can-Spa m act of 2003 requires that each email gives clear directions to the subscriber of how to unsubscribe if they choose to.

6. Don’t get the dredded red X

It is very important when adding images to an email to make sure that these images have been correctly formatted. Not only this but that the images include alt tags and links if needed. The alt tags help email software to realise what the images are and helps to not block these images.

7. Test, Test and Test some more

Last but not least it is important to test each email before sending it out ot your list. This helps to make sure there are no problems especially those listed above. Test and test some more, analyse the results you get from your email campaigns, tweak them and then send them again to another selection of people. Email marketing is not hard it just takes time to find the correct formula for your email list. Good luck.
