Article Marketing Secrets and Tips
In the fifth chapter of 7 steps to Article Marketing I am going to be sharing some of my own personal techniques for optimsing and improving my articles traffic and click through conversion.
Throughout my time Article marketing I have found some great techniques for ensuring that your article is as optimised as it can be as well as tips for increasing the conversion rate for your articles so that more people click through to your website.
What is the Resource Box?
The resource box is very important when increasing your CTR (Click through rate) of your articles and its very important that you optimise your resource box as best you can the first time you submit your article. Because editing an article after it has been published will lead to the article being unpublished and being sent back to be reviewed, this costs time and can sometimes effect the amount of traffic your article receives.
The resource box is located at the bottom of each article and in Ezine articles this is where you will add your URL so that people can click through to your personal website.
Tip: You are allowed a maximum of two URLs in each article. For Ezine articles these can only be placed in your resource box.
How to optimise the Resource Box?
A technique that I use when submitting articles is to add the last 50 words of my article to the resource box. This makes the reader assume that the resource box is just a part of the article and when looking at the finished article published it does look like the article flows straight on through the resource box. However the key difference here is that you can add your URLs to your resource box. Therefore to the readers it looks as if the URLs are a part of the main article body.
To add your URLs to the resource box depending on whether you are trying to sell a product/ service or if your just looking for click throughs to your blog for traffic then your resource box will be different however these are some general tips for writing your resource box.
- Put the last 50 words of your Article in the Resource Box.
- Make the two URLs different pages on your website.
- Make the anchor text different for each URL
- Make the anchor text short and sweet.
- Entice the readers with free promotional products/ services.
- Try merging the URLs in with the article content.
- Highlight to the readers that they can get more benefits from clicking through to your URL.
These are just a couple of tips to use when writing a resource box.
Writing a Resource Box for traffic?
If your a blogger and your looking for readers to click through to your blog and read other articles on your blog then you may want to highlight the biggest selling points of your blog. If you have excellent content which is either written in a unique style or aimed at a certain niche market then highlight this and promote this to your readers.
A great way of getting traffic from article marketing for any blogger is to write a summarised version of a certain article primarily for the article directories then in the resource box highlight that this was only a summary and that they can find the thorough more detailed article through this link.
If you have any eBooks or promotional products or services that you can give away then why not send them to a page which promotes these items from there the reader will probably click to another page of your blog.
Writing a Resource Box for Subscribers?
If you are focused on building up an E-mail list either for a blog, a product or for any other reason then you are going to need to offer some incentive for subscribing to the list. A very popular way of getting people to subscribe to E-mail lists are through eBooks that you will give away to subscribers of your list. You could highlight this in your resource box which would offer an incentive for joining your list. If you have any other types of products or incentives then highlight this so the readers feel more motivated to join.
Tip: Readers are always thinking whats in it for me, they realise they are getting the content for free but they can get that anywhere. They need something more and an eBook with all their questions answered or some type of service which benefits them may be ideal.
Optimise your Title and Meta Tags
This is quite an obvious one but to increase traffic add your keywords to your title and make it obvious. If your article is about Internet Marketing your title shouldn’t include keywords such as “cheese cake, diabetes”. Make your title relevant to your article, this will help both readers and the search engines.
Tip: If your having a difficult time finding the right keywords for your article then why not search through other articles in your market on the article directory and see what keywords they have added to their title.
Take inspiration from your competition.

Keyword Research: The first steps to Article Marketing
How to write an article for the Article Directories
Include Keywords in your Summary
More for the benefits of the search engines rather than your readers it is a smart idea to include your main keywords to the last sentence in your article body and in the resource box.
Pick the right Catergory
Sometimes you can be a little confused to which catergory your article belongs, especially if it is talking about a broad subject however a good technique to use for ensuring you choose the right catergory is to check your competition.
Do a search on the article directory for similiar articles in your market and check what catergories they have chosen. Don’t just check one article though as it may not be the most beneficial catergory check at least 3 other articles by different Authors, just to be sure.
Surf and Destroy
I have already spoken about how you can benefit from your competition well to summarise you can surf your competitions articles and check the keywords they have used in their articles by viewing the source (right click > view source) as well as this check their description tag.
Check how they structure their articles and how they write their resource box take an educated guess as to if their resource box works as a way to convert readers. You can do this by looking at the Author’s profile check how many articles they have relevant to that market, if they have a lot of articles then they are probably familiar with article marketing however if they only have one or two articles be aware when you choose to take some of their techniques and keywords.
When to submit and why?
Focusing mainly on Ezine articles for a basic member it generally takes between 6-7 days for your article to be approved however sometimes it can take a lot longer. Going with this general rule that it takes 7 days for your article to be approved if there are no problems with your article then try submitting your article for review on a Thursday or Friday (try both).
The goal is for your article to be accepted on a Friday preferably the latest in the day you can get it. The reason for this is that Ezine articles stops approving articles on Friday for the weekend therefore the last ten or twenty articles to be approved show up on the home page of Ezine articles for the weekend maximising exposure and increasing traffic and visibility.
Thats all for this chapter, I hope you enjoyed this weeks article. Please stumble and go media marketing crazy.
