A Sphinn introduction and guide

What is Sphinn?

If you haven’t already heard of Sphinn it is a social media site similar to Digg in its structure and primary function, the difference is that Sphinn is targeted for people with interests in Internet Marketing, SEO, SEM and other Internet based areas.

The great advantage that Sphinn has in comparison to other similar sites is that Sphinn focuses on a single market area. This allows users a great advantage in receiving targeted traffic towards their articles many of which convert in to subscribers.

A second advantage is because Sphinn is a relatively new website the control over keeping things fair and stopping members unethically voting their own articles in order for them to be placed on the front page is easily controlled. The other advantage of Sphinn being relatively new is that it does not take 1,000 votes in order for your article to reach the front page, on average it would take 25-30 to be placed on the front page. Obviously as the amount of members grows in turn so will the amount of votes you need to reach the front page, however if your content is relevant and interesting this may only benefit you.

Can anybody sign up to Sphinn?

Yes, I believe that anyone can sign up to Sphinn for free here. Whether you’re interested in finding blogs to read or you want to broadcast your own blog sign up and start sphinning.

How do you Sphinn?

It’s relatively simple, if you’re familiar with Digg then its easy! All you need to do to Sphinn is be logged in and find the icon that you can see across my website here.

When you have found this click the icon and the article you’re currently reading will be Sphunn, you will then see the image change to the same icon with a number in it, for the amount of people who have sphunn that article. If you’re the first person to Sphinn the article you will be guided to a webpage which looks exactly like this

This same page will appear if your either sphinning your own article for the first time or sphinning a fellow bloggers article for the first time. Ensure you submit the article to the most relevant catergory this will guarantee that your article is viewed by targeted visitors.

Sphinn also uses your article title as standard however it is advised to change this title to something not only relevant but eye catching and interesting too. The title will be the most noticeable piece of text; you want people to click through to your website from this title tag.

After this you will be asked for a description of your article, this is your chance to impress the viewers make it short and snappy. You want the description to tell the reader what the article is about in less than two sentences. No one wants to read a 200 word description without finding out what the article is about.

After you have done all this, you can preview or submit your article which you will then be able to see on the “what’s new” page, all new submissions are viewable on this page. As Sphinn is still relatively new it’s highly unlikely that you will get many votes within the first hour, perhaps 1-5.

Comment and Desphinn

So you know how to Sphinn, what else can you do other than this. Well you can share your opinion on other bloggers articles. This is very simple by just clicking on the article title tag. You will appear on this page

This page allows you to read the full description of the article, comment on the article, sphinn or desphinn the article.

You may have wondered what depshin is; well this allows you to give a thumbs down to articles. If you decide to desphinn an article you’re also required to comment explaining why you have desphunn the article. New users who have an account under 7 days old will not be able to desphinn articles.

Stalk, be stalked or make friends

Sphinn also allows you to create a network of friends. There are three different relationships that you can have stalkers, stalkees and friends.

Stalkers are people who are watching/following you perhaps because they find you or an article you submitted interesting. You have the option to add stalkers as your friends.

Stalkees are people whom you find interesting, these people have not yet reacted to you and they have the option to add you as a friend.

Friends these are basically two members whom have stalked or been stalked by one another, then taken their relationship to the next level.

Sphinn Tools

There is an array of tools which can be found here these are to help you promote and market your article. These include the Sphinn badge which you can see on my website in my navigation bar and many more.

These tools use HTML and CSS and can easily be implemented on to your own website. As well as this you can find a Sphinn it wordpress plugin which allows you to add a Sphinn button to every post you make.

Overall Sphinn is a great website, one that is growing steadily. If you’re not already using it to promote your articles then I would definitely start now.
