3 Ways to Impress the Search Engines
Search engine optimization is constantly changing and with that change to improve search engine rankings websites have to change with it. On page optimization used to be a big factor when performing search engine optimization however since many people started to learn about SEO and provide services for other websites the algorithm has shifted and more importance is now held on internal and external linking.
Internal and external linking, also a major part of off page optimization and also called inbound and outbound links are the process of linking from one page or one website to another. Google has by the far the largest search engine and they focus highly on the internal and external linking to websites. Therefore it is important that website owners take notice of this fact and start to improve their linking structures.
3 Tips for Building Effective Links
- Search engines look for organic results. What I mean by this is that search engines are looking for results which have pertinent links from one another websites. For example a natural link from a website that sells hairdressing products would be a hairdresser website. Another example would be a pet shop website which links to a major supplier of pet food. Unnatural links are going to be a problem especially if there is a large amount of unnatural links.
- Search engines are also looking for consistency. More links are not always better. It is important that when you are building links to a website that you build them with a structure and with consistency. If you are to build 1,000 links one week and 20 the next then this is going to look very unnatural and it would create suspicion. This is something that link farms used to do when they were all the rage, if you come across one now though I highly recommend that you do NOT get involved.
- Search engines are looking for one-way links. It is important that when link building that you ensure the links coming from external sources don’t have links on your website. Not in every case is this a problem however if the search engines find that a large percentage of your external links are also linked from your website then they may assume that you are doing link exchanges with other websites which automatically tells the search engines that the links have not naturally been built. When one website wants to link to another website then it shows that the website has something of value. However if the other website links back to that website then it diminishes this value because it no longer looks natural.
